T20 series: Nepal gets off to a good start by beating Kenya

Kathmandu: Nepal has started the series happily by defeating Kenya as part of the five-match T20 International series. Nepal won by 5 wickets in the match played at Gymkhana Club Ground in Nairobi, Kenya.

After losing the toss, the home team Kenya scored 130 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. For Kenya, Irfan Karim top-scored with 34 while Lukas Anderson scored an unbeaten 31. Similarly, Nelson Odiambo scored 19, Sachin Bhudia scored 17 and Collins Obuya scored 12. From the bowling side, Nepal’s Sompal Kami took 3 wickets while captain Sandeep Lamichhane took 2 wickets and Adil Alam and Deepender Singh Airi took 1-1.

In reply, Nepal lost opener Pawan Sarraf for 1 run. Another opener Asif Sheikh scored 19 runs and Gyanendra Malla scored 23 runs to lead Nepal. Deepender Singh Airi, the highest run-scorer for Nepal, batted aggressively and scored 33 runs with the help of 2 sixes and 1 four. Similarly, Rohit Paudel scored 13 and Arif Sheikh scored 24 not out.

From the bowling side, Kenya’s Lukas Olouch and Viraj Patel took 2 wickets while Nehemiah Odiambo took 1 wicket. The second match will be played between Nepal and Kenya on Friday.
